President Trump has spoken out on the recent wave of child abuse allegations that have rocked Catholic Church diocese across the United States, describing the scandal as “devastating” for the religion.
Donald Trump expressed great sadness over the ongoing revelations of sexual abuse involving Catholic clergy members. During an Oval Office interview with DCNF, the president tacitly defended the Pope’s handling of the crisis, saying the head of the Vatican was dealing with it “the best anyone can handle it.” When describing the number of victims and the length of time the abuse has continued, Mr. Trump said it’s “one of the sadder stories.”
Speaking to the Daily Caller, Trump said, “It’s so sad to watch,” when asked for his thoughts on the issue, lamenting “the numbers, the length of time, you know, going back 70 years, I think it’s having a really negative impact on the Catholic Church. …
